Pattern of antibiotic susceptibility in Campylobacter jejuni isolates of human and poultry origin.
Campylobacter jejuni antibiotic resistance is rising with a variable geographical pattern; but there is limited data from the Arabian Gulf region. We assessed the sensitivity of human (117) and chicken (33) C. jejuni isolates to erythromycin, ciprofloxacin, tetracycline and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole by agar dilution, disc diffusion and the E test. Only 2 human isolates were resistant to ery...
متن کاملClonal Distribution and Virulence of Campylobacter jejuni Isolates in Blood
Campylobacter jejuni bacteria are highly diverse enteropathogens. Seventy-three C. jejuni isolates from blood collected in Finland were analyzed by multilocus sequence typing and serum resistance. Approximately half of the isolates belonged to the otherwise uncommon sequence type 677 clonal complex. Isolates of this clonal complex were more resistant than other isolates to human serum.
متن کاملA Molecular Survey of Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter Coli Virulence and Diversity
Background: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of virulence-associated genes and enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus PCR (ERIC-PCR) analysis of Campylobacter spp. isolated from children with diarrhea in Iran. Methods: A total of 200 stool specimens were obtained from children under 5 years during July 2012 to July 2013. Detection of C. jejuni and C. coli was perfo...
متن کاملVirulence characteristics of five new Campylobacter jejuni chicken isolates
Campylobacter enteritis has emerged as one of the most common forms of human diarrheal illness. In this study we have investigated the virulence potential of five new C. jejuni chicken isolates (RO14, RO19, RO24, RO29 and RO37) originated from private households in the rural regions of Banat and Transylvania in Romania. Following isolation and in vitro virulence assay, on HCT-8 cells, our resul...
متن کاملIdentification of Possible Virulence Marker from Campylobacter jejuni Isolates
A novel protein translocation system, the type-6 secretion system (T6SS), may play a role in virulence of Campylobacter jejuni. We investigated 181 C. jejuni isolates from humans, chickens, and environmental sources in Vietnam, Thailand, Pakistan, and the United Kingdom for T6SS. The marker was most prevalent in human and chicken isolates from Vietnam.
